Reiki for Living Well

Editor’s Note: This is a guest post from Jane Van De Velde of The Reiki Share Project

“Thank you for the wonderful gift of Reiki!”

For Reiki Masters Teachers, these words make our hearts sing.  This feedback came from a student who participated in The Reiki Share Project’s Level I Reiki for You class at LivingWell Cancer Resource Center in Geneva, Illinois. This one-day class was recently taught to 18 participants—all of whom have been touched by cancer.

Students come to our Reiki classes dealing with cancer on many levels:

  • coping with the effects of chemotherapy and radiation,
  • recovering from treatment,
  • resuming their lives as cancer survivors,
  • and supporting family members or friends with cancer.

These students are seeking ways to manage the stress, worry, pain, and anxiety that often accompany a cancer diagnosis. Reiki is a wonderful self-care practice that offers so many benefits to people dealing with this disease.

Reiki Master Teachers (RMT) Ellie Byrnes and Kathy Regganie taught this class with support from RMT’s Jane Van De Velde, Heather McCutcheon and Mary Garber. The students were engaged, curious, and eager to connect to Reiki during class practice time. It was a joy to watch them learn hand positions for self-treatment and begin to experience the sensations of Reiki. They were focused and gentle as they shared Reiki with partners. By the end of the class, the students were excited to weave Reiki into their daily lives.

It was a privilege to share the gift Reiki with such wonderful students. The beautiful energy of these newest Reiki practitioners clearly shines through in their class picture. We wish them all the best as they continue their journeys toward healing and wholeness.
